Most, if not all will agree that a flat screen television is an expensive investment. Not everybody sees the immediate need of mounting LCD TVs on TV wall brackets and keeping it out of harm's way. Everybody watches television daily and are so used to handling and rearranging the television that they lose sight on the amount of investment carried around the room. Curtain Shelf Brackets - An Iron Home Decorating Homerun

Redecorating a room used to mean daunting choices, but not any more. For a bedroom, a rustic theme drew me to consider wrought iron products for new window treatments. Wrought iron home décor decision down, what next? I found a huge selection of ornamental iron products, including iron curtain rods and curtain accessories to satisfy my curiosity.

The item that dominated my imagination was the iron curtain shelf bracket. As a woodworker and traveler with the US military, this offered me a vision of display of cultural or wood items I wanted to show off. Plus, iron curtain rods matched with other iron curtain accessories easily filled this home decorating void.

Curtain shelf brackets are designed to accommodate a standard 1 x 6 milled board, with a length fashioned to the width demands of your window. Think about how the wood itself contributes to the home decorating theme. Paint and distress new wood or recycle that antique-looking wood to achieve the impeccable shabby chic look. Personally, for something else to focus attention, I'll mill a shelf from a local tree and apply natural finish to enhance the wood's visual appeal.

At the bottom of the bracket is a decorative hook to simply cradle the wrought iron curtain rod. An important consideration pertains to available silhouettes. The ultimate clearance from shelf bottom to the curtain rod may be a limiter for any silhouettes desired on the curtain rod. Consider this: The shelf bracket is available with many of our common silhouettes. Most silhouettes add 3" to the height of the bracket. Move the silhouette theme from the curtain rod to the shelf bracket. Many iron curtain rod designs are available that well compliment the curtain shelf bracket. These range from the Ball, Remington or Curl, and are available in four adjustable lengths for any home decorating requirement.

Is your window wide, causing you doubts about use of the curtain shelf bracket? The solution is easy. I recommend you consider using a center shelf bracket with 36" width windows. Wood can remain stable and strong over that width. Over 36" width windows, it is strongly recommended to include the center shelf bracket. As an example, I have a window that's 130" wide. Two brackets help support not only the shelf, but the wrought iron curtain rod. The center support bracket is for safety and appearance.

With the curtain shelf bracket installed and your iron curtain rod at the ready, complete an exquisite look with curtain accessories. The AS3S is a tri-shelf cable management system. It can be used with or without a Plasma/LCD mount. This unit is designed to fit under your display and provide an on wall solution for other components such as cable boxes, DVD players, game consoles, and stereo components. There are three 2.25-Inch holes on the aluminum plate that allow you to cleanly run your cables up to your TV or down to another component, as well as out the bottom to an outlet. After reviewing our competition we realized that most shelving units need to be mounted directly into a wall stud. In most cases the wall stud is placed to the right or to the left of the display, which is not where most people prefer to have their shelves mounted. This is still the most secure option however, after significant research we’ve found that using the correct toggle bolts can allow you to mount your shelving unit wherever you see fit. With the combination of four of these toggle bolts the shelving unit is able to hold well over 70LBS safely. Each individual toggle bolt provides 75LBS of support. Please note that a good toggle bolt is still only as good as the quality of the drywall it is mounted into. If you have water damage or .25-Inch drywall please add a support for your shelving unit.

Wall Shelf - Advantages of Having More Space

You know, I've installed plenty of wall shelves in my time. For one reason or another, the convenience of having more space to place things in a room in an orderly fashion will bring about a feeling of peaceful bliss. Your surroundings will be so well organized that you will want to jump up for joy!

What I am going to do here is give you examples of what people I know have done with wall shelf to take advantage of limited space. I'm hoping this will give you some ideas of the useful intentions of wall shelving.

My first example is what my friend Tony did with wall shelf in his living room. Tony and his wife Jennifer own a home in upstate New York. This three bedroom, two and one half bath ranch home has a living room with a fireplace in the middle of the wall on the far end of the room. Tony and Jennifer have been collecting limited edition crystal figurines for the last 15 years.

At first, when the collection was small, they displayed them on the coffee table and end tables in their living room. As time went on and the collection got larger and larger, these beautiful crystals needed a place dedicated to this collection.

With no room for a large curio cabinet, Tony had an idea. He took one look at the wall space above the fireplace and right away he thought of wall shelves.

After searching all over online, Tony and Jennifer decided to go with a floating glass shelf system called the "Wave." This curved glass comes in sections 24 inches wide by 8 inches deep. With these wavy glass shelves you can assemble them in a wave for as wide as you want to go by adding another 24 inch shelf side by side.

Tony and Jennifer decided to go with two six foot long shelves above the fireplace. The shelves were about 18 inches above each other. They were able to display their entire collection of crystal figurines and the living room looked spectacular.

My other friends John and Gina turned their family room into their entertainment room. On one wall they had a 60 inch flat panel TV. Below the TV was a solid oak wall mount shelf open cabinet. The cabinet itself had two shelves to accommodate their CD and DVD collection.

Sitting on top of this shelving cabinet was the receiver/amplifier for their home theater along with the subwoofer of the audio system. In all four corners of the room are Architectural Elements corner wall shelves of honey oak. These corner wall shelves are about 2/3 of the way up the wall corners with the other speakers of the home theater system sitting on them. When I watched a movie with them, it was like being in a movie theater.

My last example for making more room with wall shelves is over at the home of my neighbor down the street. This is the home of Bruce and Maurine. They have a recreation room in their basement. On one side of the room is a pool table. On the other side of the room is a ping pong table.

Along with their two children, Shauna 12 years old and Michael 14 years old, Bruce and Maurine are very much into sports. Shauna is on the figure skating team at the local rink. Michael plays on the local little league baseball team in the summer and on the hockey team at the local rink during the winter. Both Bruce and Maurine are on separate bowling leagues.

To say the least, over the past few years, trophies have accumulated in their home. It got to the point that there was no place designated to display all their trophies.

Maurine had an idea. There was a lot of open wall space in the basement recreation room. Why not put up a large shelf on each wall? So after searching online for a little while, Maurine found the perfect solution to their trophy displaying problem.

What Maurine did was to install the Vertigo 4 piece shelf set in Java which is a dark coffee colored wood. This 4 piece set added enough room to all four walls of the recreation room to more than adequately supply space for the entire family's trophy collection.

1. Use a stud finder to find your wall studs. Slide it along the wall until you see or hear the indicator (depending on your model you may hear a beep or see a red line). This tells you that you have reached the edge of a wall stud. Mark this location with a pencil. Now start again from the opposite side, just a little further over and slide the finder along towards the mark you just made until it indicates that you have found the other edge of the stud, and mark this point as well.

Move about 32 inches or so, and do this again to find your second stud. If your wall shelves are not large enough to hit both studs, then you do not need to repeat the process. Simply use wall plugs for the brackets that are not going to be drilled in to the stud.

2. Hold one of your brackets at the area you want to hang it. Mark the screw hole with your pencil. Make sure you are starting at the stud. Now, use your drill to make a pilot hole at the pencil mark. If there are two screw holes on your bracket, then mark and drill two pilot holes.

3. Holding the bracket in place with the screw holes over the pilot holes, drill or screw the appropriate screw into the pilot holes. Make it snug, but don't over-tighten it at this point.

4. Using a level, align your second bracket along the wall and mark the screw holes. Drill your pilot holes, then insert wall plugs. Now, screw your brackets into the wall plugs. The wall plugs will provide a more secure hold to the wall, when you cannot use a stud to secure the brackets.

5. Tighten all of your screws, then attach the wall shelf to the brackets. Again, use your level to make sure that it is properly balanced.

As you can see, installing wall mounted shelves is a simple project that you can easily accomplish in less than an hour! And now all you have to do is sit back and enjoy your newly organized room.
